Hi, my name is Tim. I am also known on the internet as “Denver Coder”. I have been a professional self-taught Web Developer for over 6 years.
I worked corporate jobs for most of my career but I soon discovered that the harder you worked the more you had to work. I was gone from home almost 14 hours per day including 2 hours of commute time.
I didn’t like that I was always spending time away from my wife and daughter. I didn’t like the fact that my daughter was being raised by other people, (Child Care). My wife is a Registered Nurse so our daughter was at Child Care from about 6am until almost 6pm every weekday.
When it finally hits you that you are only spending about 2 hours a day with your child you tend to want to do something about it.
That is when I decided to take the jump into a Freelance career. My theory is that even if it meant I would make a little bit less money at first, it would be worth it in the long run.
Ever since I started learning how to program, I have dabbled on the side with WordPress. I tend to be a bit more outgoing than most Developers. I liked the fact that doing a WordPress site pretty much depended on interacting with clients to find their “pain-points” and solve them.
I dove into WordPress development head first and on a whim I started a WordPress/Mobile App Development company called, “Denver Coders”, (it was pretty easy to throw an “s” on the name I had been operating under as a solo developer).
I got a few programmer friends involved and within a few weeks we got our first contract for over $15,000. It was fun but shortly thereafter it started to feel too much like “corporate” America again. I was always gone, meeting with clients, travelling the Country, and spending more and more time away from my family.
So last year I threw my hands up and said, “that’s it. I’m only taking remote jobs that I enjoy doing and that’s final”.
So I handed the Company off to my co-founders and I’m back to doing what I love best. Helping People.
This can be YOUR life as well as long as you meet the following criteria:
- You have a partner, child or pet you want to spend more time with.
- You want to be your own boss and only work on things YOU want to work on.
- You aren’t afraid of hard work, (cause anyone who says this is easy is lying to you)
- You want to help people, and “pay it forward” if you will.
- You don’t want to Freelance or get a job because you think you will make millions of dollars, (you won’t at first and maybe not ever)
My goal is to do whatever I can to help you make it in the Freelance realm. Or if you are a business owner that wants to take charge of your online presence I can help with that too. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you learned something!
